Review

The film, Perusu, by Ilango Ram, is an uncharacteristic, callous venture in the realm of adult comedy in the Tamil filial industry that balances excess over-the-top slapstick humour whilst incorporating a certain degree of poignancy concerning family. Remake of a highly-rated Sinhalese film Tentigo of Ram, Perusu transforms an outrageous conceit, a highly-respected older man is getting killed with a premature gesture finale and turns it into a screaming, though of top-of-the-line, farce with lots of wordplay and into the most innuendos around it, with lots of laughs.

Perusu Tamil Movie

Led by the actual brothers Vaibhav and Sunil, the film keeps spreading on their easy chemistry contenting not only cutthroat comedy but involving underlying emotional nuances that come as a surprise. The reinforcement of actors like Bala Saravanan, Munishkanth and Deepa Shankar add to an electric feel into it, i.e., where the phallic gags are losing their appeal it is the characters who cling on the ball.

Perusu is clever in its use of a shock-value plot, devoid of crassnessness. It does not ever cash in on its adult rating on cheap thrill, but instead invents clean though cheeky humor. Scenes such as a midnight heart to heart between them brothers give it a somewhat added flavor giving an allusion to their poor relationship they had once had between them and their father.

The movie is not completely without limitations. The first half is slow-moving, and the humor takes too much faith on repeat gags at times. There is some body work that might have been done to some characters, especially the women. Nevertheless, the ADD closing concludes the whole with a satisfactory conclusion, and there are more than enough LOLs scattered throughout.

Yet secondary Perusu is a cool-blooded mindless entertainer in spite of its weaknesses. It is a brash trial which never cries foul in the presence of death and leaves the viewers laughing and sneaking in hurtful option on family, noble obligations and the burn of defeat. In the midst of the action thrillers, this one towers above the rest and, yes, it is hard to overlook.

Cast

Vaibhav delivers a competent work of his part as Duraikannu, the younger brother who is the besotted struggling to handle an out-of-this-world scenario. The sprinkling of lighter action is supported by body language that is casual and comic, but a scene in a car gives us a demonstration of his range of expression. As elder brother, Saamikannu, Sunil Reddy balances it with a placid and balanced future. The relationship between the two, such as the brotherly interaction of Vaibhav and Sunil is natural and understandable due to their real life equation.

Online star social media talent Niharika NM earns an honest big screen debut as Shanti. Nevertheless, she can easily hold her ground in emotional and comic situations only after having a minor misattack concerning the accent. Chandini Tamilarasan as Thulasi makes her character quiet and, in her communication with her family, delivers depth where it was required badly but the part was unjustly shortchanged.

Deepa Shankar is without a doubt the scene-stealer of all the scenes she appears in with her rapid thinking aunt role, so successfully using her comedic timing. Nakkalites Dhanam, the no-nonsense mother, serves as a kind of dose of reality with the bland attitude on sorrow and the stabbing background of humor.

The skeptical auto driver (Anil) played by Bala Saravanan and Redin Kingsley create a high comical quotient at the right opportune timing. It has good supporting characters in unlist through Munishkanth and VTV Ganesh, Karunakaran and Gajararaj, contributing to forming a cast, and, therefore, making sure the insane pace of Perusu never slows until the very end.

Critical Reviews

Perusu is a crass Tamil comedy of two brothers who conceal the strange state of their late father, Abhinav Subramanian of The Times of India in giving the picture three stars out of five. Laughter and continual growing mishaps achieve the laugh joke but much of the comedy becomes cliché. Strong acting can offset browsing problems and likeable actors ensure the constant laughs.

News18 newspaper published the rating of three out of 5 stars by Kirubhakar Purushothaman who gives a review of the movie as a brash Tamil adult comedy with a fact-strange storyline in which the embarrassing post-mortem condition of a great elder leads to hair-raising compromise efforts by his sons. It is funny at times, no doubt, though there are too many phallic jokes and there is not enough depth to function even when they use the wobbly characters. The sentiment-laced scenes provide a balance and Bala Saravanan, Reddin Kingsley and Munishkanth deliver hard enough to inject some appeal though one can neitherVer-O round to nominate it the comedy of the month.

Giving the rating of three stars out of the five stars of the movie, Narayani M of Cinema Express gave a thumbs up to the piece of the movie on its chaotic comedy and the blend of comedy and emotional scenes. The beginning part is slow, yet the latter portion of the scene provides decent jokes in their high point, and Deepa Shankar and Bala Saravanan do not disappoint with their acting skills. And though psychological richness is not fully explored, it at least brings a certain balance. It is packed with expired jokes, shallow character growth, and no little aural debris, yet the film is also as full as it is great in laughs and major, romantically desirable climaxes.

Anusha Sundar of OTTplay, the movie has attracted a review of two-and-a-half stars and a rating of a Tamil adult comedy whose plot is special to its genre that its comedy should allow emotions to have a place. Sunil and Vaibhav excelled in their parts and the film lacked in lots of failed chances that made the movie slow and cumbersome. Perusu has its low parts, but due to its exceptionally humorous second half, which contains an entertaining chaacie climax in it that haths some fair doses of humorous value, it is a fine sitcom.

On a very simple premise of the father of a family concealing his socially embarrassing condition to the world, Perusu is a Tamil adult comedy, Gopinath Rajendran of The Hindu writes. The movie is humorously presented as slatherous situations take place, there is a lot of bulldogging, given as zinger and terseness in a way of one-liner jokes. Vaibhav, Sunil and Bala Saravanan make a very good job with the material at their disposal but again the dependence of the movie on the humor elements, that are easy to laugh at, and the chances to dig deeper into the issues, diminishes the effect. Perusu is an amiable and carelessly minded entertainer in spite of its many shortcomings.

Audiences Reviews

Viewers gave the Perusu film positive responses. More than 883 individuals gave the film 7.3 stars in a 10 stars rating on IMDb, which is quite a fantastic commentary by the audience. According to the reviews of users, the view of the audience towards Perusu is mostly positive, but a bit mixed. The movie got many commendations, mostly because of its bold and unconventional production of the mature comedy within a framework of a family drama.

The reality that the film also attempts to deliver humor despite such an unusual premise and even a potentially morbid scenario, and does it are not worth disregarding either, which, indeed, many are grateful to director Ilango Ram, who actually succeeds in dragging the viewers through the light-hearted messiness rather. Sunil Reddy was popular, for his amazing comic timing and sense of honesty in playing the responsible elder brother role whereas Vaibhav got varied reactions, the drama bhakths liked his drunkard gimmicks and others said that his acting was superficial. Cinematography captured by Sathya Thilagam was singled out as was the way he was able to create the visually vibrant element with in a house set that was almost claustrophobic.

Although a strange topic, users claimed this was an enjoyable film that never got boring, but was a refreshing alternative to the normal Hollywood commercial film. It was also mentioned that some of the main strong sides that did not leave the viewers indifferent were the chemistry between the main actors and comedic lines.

Conversely, a few audience condemned Perusu due to stiff jokes and humorous editing. According to some critics the similarity of the jokes was too much and the film would have been better served by a quicker cut. Some others indicated that female characters were not developed sufficiently and that not all the viewers could find the humorous approach to a funeral situation appropriate.

Perusu is a film that cannot offer to everybody, and yet, it also does shine in its off-the-wall attitude and boundless audacity respectively. The frivolously charismatic nature of its content might not do it any sales, but the frivolously pleasurable nature of it must sweetly appeal to those suffering boredom with the now predictable Tamil film.
